We have big enough holes at least in the bio and request to store them, although instead of the enum which is at least in sized we'd have to make them an explicit u16 or even u8.

Sure, that's how I did it originally as well. BTW, that patch does not look like an incremental patch, what's this against?

Looks like a replacement patch, not incremental to that. I'll update. And I'm fine with not using flags, in fact that's what I preferred to do initially.
