From: Jianmin Lv <lvjianmin@loongson.cn>

This add ACPI-based generic laptop driver for Loongson-3. Some of the
codes are derived from drivers/platform/x86/thinkpad_acpi.c.

V2: Fix problems pointed out by Arnd.
V3: Use platform driver instead of acpi driver.

This is a new top-level directory under drivers/platform. Have you
already thought about which subsystem maintainer is going to be
responsible for merging changing in this directory and sending
the changes to Linus Torvalds?

You may have noticed that I'm the maintainer of:

drivers/platform/mellanox
drivers/platform/olpc
drivers/platform/surface
drivers/platform/x86

But those all are x86 systems, so I'm not sure how qualified I'm
to also take care of the loongarch stuff.

To the other people in the Cc and volunteers to take up maintainership
for this (once it is ready to be merged) ?

Please drop the "if LOONGARCH" and "endif" and instead
add a "depends on LOONGARCH" to "menuconfig LOONGARCH_PLATFORM_DEVICES"
in drivers/platform/loongarch/Kconfig, like all the other subdirs are
doing.

MIPS is the only one using an if directly in drivers/platform/Kconfig
and it would be nice to get rid of the "if MIPS" so that
drivers/platform/Kconfig consistenly just sources all subdir Kconfig-s
leaving the dependency handling to the lower dir Kconfig. At a minimum
we don't want to add more if-s.

You only source this if LOONGARCH is set, so this is just a fancy
way of writing "default y". If you want to have this enabled by
default for loongarch builds, just use default y.

Please make this "config LOONGARCH_GENERIC_LAPTOP", the Kconfig symbol space
is global so GENERIC_LAPTOP is a bit too generic :)

Would it make sense to move this depends on into the LOONGARCH_PLATFORM_DEVICES
section ?

> +	select INPUT_EVDEV

No this should never be selected by a driver. If you want this to be
available to userspace it should be enabled in the kernel-s config
when building the kernel. You could put this in a defconfig file
for your arch if you want but it does not belong here.

So now the module name is going to be generic-laptop too. The module name namespace
is global, so this IMHO is a bit too generic, please prefix this with
loongarch (just like the Kconfig symbol).

Note I have not looked at the actual driver code below, this is not a full review.

A couple more notes which I noticed just after sending my previous email:

Do you really need / use all these defines ?

You will want to put a:

MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE(acpi, loongson_htk_device_ids);

line here for proper automatic loading when build as a module.

Since you unconditionally define loongson_htk_device_ids above;
and since you have a "depends on ACPI" in your Kconfig, you can drop
the ACPI_PTR() here, just use loongson_htk_device_ids directly.

I see above that you have only 1 subdriver. Do you expect there to be
more in the future ? If not then it would be better to just completely
remove the subdriver abstraction and simply do everything directly
from the main probe/remove functions (see below).

All of generic_acpi_laptop_init should be done from loongson_hotkey_probe()
and instead of using global variables all data you need should be in a struct
and that struct should be alloc-ed from loongson_hotkey_probe() and then tied
to the platform_device using platform_set_drvdata() and retreived on remove
using platform_get_drvdata() and on suspend/resume using dev_get_drvdata().

This should be done from a remove function which then gets set as the
remove callback in loongson_hotkey_driver.

I see at a quick glance that you based this driver on thinkpad_acpi.c
but that is a very old driver which does a bunch of things in old,
deprecated ways which are hard to fix for userspace API compatibility
reasons.

Now a days we try to avoid global variables and also custom
module_init()/module_exit() functions.

> +module_init(generic_acpi_laptop_init);
> +module_exit(generic_acpi_laptop_exit);

Once the work of these 2 functions is done from loongson_hotkey_driver.probe /
loongson_hotkey_driver.remove, you can replace this with:

module_platform_driver(loongson_hotkey_driver);

> +
> +MODULE_ALIAS("platform:acpi-laptop");

This is not necessary, what you need for autoloading is the:

MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE(acpi, loongson_htk_device_ids);

mentioned above.

You only use the ACPI_LAPTOP_DESC #define once, please just
put its contents directly here.

> +MODULE_VERSION(ACPI_LAPTOP_VERSION);

Modules having there own versioning separate from the kernel
is something from the past. Please drop the MODULE_VERSION() line
and the ACPI_LAPTOP_VERSION #define.

Since I'm not an expert of platform drivers, I hope this driver can be
reviewed by related maintainers. I will maintain it as part of the
LoongArch tree after being merged, thanks.

Emm, GENERIC_LAPTOP is not a good name, maybe LOONGSON_LAPTOP is better.

More drivers will be added in future and not all of them are limited
to 64bit, so keep it as is may be appropriate.
