It's awesome that you're beginning upstreaming early, but if you don't have this in silicon yet, how do you even know that this driver works? If you're just using this for testing on FPGAs you can create dummy fixed clocks in the device tree for the PLLs that this driver can consume. Then later when you have a PLL driver you can replace those fixed clocks with the output of that driver. /Emil

I'm sorry, how does that make any sense? If the compiler can compile drivers/clk/starfive/clk-starfive-jh7110-sys.c just fine, then why would it have trouble with drivers/clk/starfive/clk-starfive-jh8100-sys.c /Emil

That would be less bad, but you still haven't explained why you need to move everything around like that: https://lore.kernel.org/linux-riscv/CAJM55Z_3Mty2LftPVkQC1wbwtGeznMMAk9mAjH_GoNuL7CKtaQ@mail.gmail.com/ I don't think just "too many files" is a very good argument here. Just look at drivers/clk/sunxi /Emil

We try to map the name of the reset device with the file's name, and at that moment, the file name is longer than 32 characters in length. In your given example, 'clk-starfive-jh8100-sys' is within the 32-character limit, so it should be okay. Given that the trend is not to use subfolders to differentiate the platform clock driver, I am okay with removing the subfolder and following the naming convention from the JH71xx's file name. > > /Emil
