I had to do a few minor updates to David Howell's recent netfs series
for cifs.ko (to rebase on current code, and eliminate a few checkpatch
warnings, see attached) but patch 8 fails to build - see below (so
only tentatively merged the first seven for testing):

  CHECK /home/smfrench/cifs-2.6/fs/smb/client/trace.c
/home/smfrench/cifs-2.6/fs/smb/client/file.c:394:10: error: ‘const

      | ^~~~~~~~~~~
/home/smfrench/cifs-2.6/fs/smb/client/file.c:394:35: error:

I've updated by cifs-netfs branch.

From David's newer updates today to the series, I lightly updated
patches 8 and 9 (to remove a trivial checkpatch warning). See attached

Patch

From 68723eed3dcf59c849a2db5c8ee4e0abfa0bb8e8 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001
From: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com>
Date: Wed, 9 Mar 2022 11:01:12 +0000
Subject: [PATCH 01/10] cifs: Replace cifs_readdata with a wrapper around
 netfs_io_subrequest

Netfslib has a facility whereby the allocation for netfs_io_subrequest can
be increased to so that filesystem-specific data can be tagged on the end.

Prepare to use this by making a struct, cifs_io_subrequest, that wraps
netfs_io_subrequest, and absorb struct cifs_readdata into it.
