Commit Message

Wei Fang Oct. 17, 2024, 7:46 a.m. UTC
The i.MX95 ENETC has been upgraded to revision 4.1, which is different
from the LS1028A ENETC (revision 1.0) except for the SI part. Therefore,
the fsl-enetc driver is incompatible with i.MX95 ENETC PF. So add new
nxp-enetc4 driver to support i.MX95 ENETC PF, and this driver will be
used to support the ENETC PF with major revision 4 for other SoCs in the
future.

Currently, the nxp-enetc4 driver only supports basic transmission feature
for i.MX95 ENETC PF, the more basic and advanced features will be added in
the subsequent patches.

v2 changes:
1. Refine the commit message.
2. Sort the header files.
3. Use dev_err_probe() in enetc4_pf_probe().
4. Remove unused variable 'pf' from enetc4_pf_remove().
v3 changes:
1. Remove is_enetc_rev1() from enetc_init_si_rings_params().
2. Use devm_add_action_or_reset() in enetc4_pf_probe().
3. Directly return dev_err_probe() in enetc4_pf_probe().

can you use clk_gate_rate() to get frequency instead of hardcode here.
Or you should use standard PCIe version information.

Not happy to access 'priv' struct here and redirect again to the 'si' struct just
to get some init time parameter value like 'clk_freq'. enetc_rx_dim_work() should
be fast and have a small footprint. Messing up caches by accessing these 2 extra
structures periodically doesn't help. Pls move 'clk_freq' to 'priv' to get rid of one
indirection at least (I don't have a better idea now).

clk_gate_rate() is not possible to be used here, enetc_get_si_caps() is shared
by PF and VFs, but VF does not have DT node. Second, LS1028A and S32
platform do not use the clocks property.

What do you mean standard PCIe version? is_enetc_rev1() gets the revision
from struct pci_dev:: revision, my understanding is that this is the revision
provided by PCIe.

For the first question, in the current patch, i.MX95 already supports some
ethtool interfaces, so there is no need to remove them.

For the second question, for LS1028A and i.MX95, the logic of these ethtool
interfaces is basically the same, the difference is the hardware operation part.
It's just that support for i.MX95 has not yet been added. Both the current
approach and the approach you suggested will eventually merge into using the
same enetc_pf_ethtool_ops, so I don't think there is much practical point in
switching to the approach you mentioned.

Not sure if this helps much, but I could move the clk_freq to priv.

I thought about it again, your suggestion is more reasonable and easier to
understand. I will merge the two enetc_pf_ethtool_ops into one after I
complete the support of all ethtool interfaces of i.MX95. Thanks.

It should be set when pf probe.

enetc4_pf_netdev_create()
{
	...
	priv->ref_clk = devm_clk_get_optional(dev, "ref");

	I am sure if it is "ref" clock.

	if (ref_clk)
		si->clk_freq = clk_get_rate(ref_clk);
	else
		si->clk_freq = ENETC_CLK; //default one for old LS1028A.

	Next time, it may be become 444MHz, 555Mhz...
}

si->clk_freq indicates the NETC system clock, not the ethernet reference
clock, and the system clock is not defined in fsl,enetc.yaml.

I still prefer the hardcode based on the IP revision, two reasons are as follows,
The first reason is that ENETC VF does not have a DT node, so VF cannot get
the system clock from DT.
The second reason is that S32 platform also not use the clocks property in DT,
so this solution is not suitable for S32 platform. In addition, for i.MX platforms,
there is a 1/2 divider inside the NETCMIX, the clock rate we get from clk_get_rate()
is 666MHz, and we need to divide by 2 to get the correct system clock rate. But
S32 does not have a NETCMIX so there may not have a 1/2 divider or may have
other dividers, even if it support the clocks property, the calculation of getting the
system clock rate is different. Therefore, the hardcode based on the IP revision is
simpler and clearer, and can be shared by both PF and VFs.
