It was very unfortunate that Renesas went with soc-camera initially. > Signed-off-by: Niklas Söderlund <niklas.soderlund+renesas@ragnatech.se> > --- > > The driver is tested on Koelsch and can grab frames using yavta. Can you post the output of 'v4l2-compliance -s' and ideally also 'v4l2-compliance -f'? I always like to see that for new drivers. > There is > however a issues sometimes if one first run v4l2-compliance and then > yavta the grabbed frames are a bit fuzzy. I'm working on it. If you need a minimum of 2 buffers before you can start streaming (a fairly common requirement for many DMA engines), then set q->min_buffers_needed to 2 when you configure the vb2 queue. Then the vb2 framework will ensure a minimum of 2 buffers before start_streaming is called. > + vin->vb_count = *nbuffers; Probably wrong: when called from CREATE_BUFS *nbuffers is the number of buffers that should be allocated in addition to the already allocated q->num_buffers. The try_format call should never fail (except if the pixelformat is unknown, and even there the preference is to pick a working pixelformat as you do here). So in case of an error it should pick something that is known to work. > + > + switch (pix->field) { > + default: > + pix->field = V4L2_FIELD_NONE; > + /* fall-through */ > + case V4L2_FIELD_NONE: > + case V4L2_FIELD_TOP: > + case V4L2_FIELD_BOTTOM: > + case V4L2_FIELD_INTERLACED_TB: > + case V4L2_FIELD_INTERLACED_BT: > + break; > + case V4L2_FIELD_INTERLACED: > + /* Query for standard if not explicitly mentioned _TB/_BT */ > + ret = v4l2_subdev_call(sd, video, querystd, &std); NACK. So just leave it at FIELD_INTERLACED. What you basically are checking here is if the input is a SDTV input, and if so then you allow the interlaced/top/bottom/tb/bt field settings and otherwise you allow the 'none' field setting. > + } > + break; > + } > + > + ret = rvin_bytes_per_line(info, pix->width); > + if (ret < 0) > + return ret; > + pix->bytesperline = max_t(u32, pix->bytesperline, ret); > + > + ret = rvin_image_size(info, pix->bytesperline, pix->height); > + if (ret < 0) > + return ret; > + pix->sizeimage = max_t(u32, pix->sizeimage, ret); > + > + if (fmtinfo) > + *fmtinfo = info; > + > + return 0; > +} > + > +static int rvin_querycap(struct file *file, void *priv, > + struct v4l2_capability *cap) > +{ > + struct rvin_dev *vin = video_drvdata(file); > + > + strlcpy(cap->driver, KBUILD_MODNAME, sizeof(cap->driver)); > + strlcpy(cap->card, "R_Car_VIN", sizeof(cap->card)); > + snprintf(cap->bus_info, sizeof(cap->bus_info), "platform:%s", > + dev_name(vin->dev)); > + cap->device_caps = V4L2_CAP_VIDEO_CAPTURE | V4L2_CAP_STREAMING; > + cap->capabilities = cap->device_caps | V4L2_CAP_DEVICE_CAPS; I generally recommend adding CAP_READWRITE to support read() as well. And perhaps you can also move the old driver to staging/media, but that should be done in a final separate patch since I am not sure yet we want to do that at the same time as introducing the new driver. > >> >>> The main feature missing at this point is vidioc_[gs]_selection. I saw that. I have a Koelsch that's still in the box, but now it is really time to start setting it up. I'll start working on that tomorrow. Regards, Hans

For me, PAL works just as well as NTSC. Yes it must have been my setup, I'm now using a PAL SNES as my video source and it works fine. I'm about ready to send out a v2 of this patch with all of Hans comments fixed. I only need to look at vidioc_[gs]_selection. It took some extra time since I found some bugs in how I handled DMA and that I had been to libera in porting the format code from soc-camera. It's all fixed and all v4l2-compliance tests I tried works. One concern I have is that I can't get some of the formats to display properly in qv4l2 (V4L2_PIX_FMT_NV16, V4L2_PIX_FMT_RGB555X, V4L2_PIX_FMT_RGB32) but I get the same 'errors' in the feed as I do with the soc-camera driver so I'm not spending so much time on the issue right now. Unfortunate the rework I have done clashes with your HDMI series Ulrich. If you wish I can rework the parts of your series that touches rcar-vin and post them as a separate series after v2? Let me know what you think. -- Regards, Niklas Söderlund

A V4L2 driver for Renesas R-Car VIN IP cores that do not depend on soc_camera. The driver is heavily based on its predecessor and aims to replace the soc_camera driver. Signed-off-by: Niklas Söderlund <niklas.soderlund+renesas@ragnatech.se> --- The driver is tested on Koelsch and can grab frames using yavta. It also passes a v4l2-compliance (1.10.0) run without failures. There is however a issues sometimes if one first run v4l2-compliance and then yavta the grabbed frames are a bit fuzzy. I'm working on it. Also I could only get frames if the video signal on the composite IN was NTSC, but this also applied to the soc_camera driver, it might be my test setup. As stated in commit message the driver is based on its soc_camera version but some features have been drooped (for now?). - The driver no longer try to use the subdev for cropping (using cropcrop/s_crop). - Do not interrogate the subdev using g_mbus_config. The goal is to replace the soc_camera driver completely to prepare for Gen3 enablement. Is it a good idea to aim for inheriting CONFIG_VIDEO_RCAR_VIN in such case? I'm thinking down the road if this driver is good enough to simply rename the old CONFIG_VIDEO_RCAR_VIN to something like CONFIG_VIDEO_SOC_CAMERA_RCAR_VIN mark is at deprecated and use this one as a drop in replacement. The main feature missing at this point is vidioc_[gs]_selection. The driver can crop/scale but it's not exposed to the user. However this will be different on Gen3 HW where not all channels have scalers. More stress testing is also needed for example streaming over longer periods. drivers/media/platform/rcar-vin/rcar-dma.c | 942 ++++++++++++++++ drivers/media/platform/rcar-vin/rcar-vin.h | 178 +++ drivers/media/platform/rcar-vin/rcar-vinip.c | 1552 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3 files changed, 2672 insertions(+) create mode 100644 drivers/media/platform/rcar-vin/rcar-dma.c create mode 100644 drivers/media/platform/rcar-vin/rcar-vin.h create mode 100644 drivers/media/platform/rcar-vin/rcar-vinip.c -- 2.7.1
