Rather than querying the cpu model, compat mode and kvm capabilities everywhere I would like to see a single set of cpu capabilities which are manipulated by the cpu model selection, compat mode selection and kvm capability querying code to have a single set of unified capabilities that can be queried to discover the current capabilities of the operating mode. But that's something for a rainy day :D
